Mark A. Stevens

High-Tech Venture Capitalist and Philanthropist

Mark Stevens has spent nearly three decades building an accomplished career as a venture capitalist, focusing his work on investments in the technology sector. He is the managing partner of S-Cubed Capital, a single family investment office, and also serves on the boards of directors of Nvidia, Innovium, and Second Spectrum. Additionally, Stevens is a former managing partner at Sequoia Capital.

During his time at Sequoia, Stevens was responsible for several of the Company's profitable investments. He led investments in Quickturn and Documentum, both of which went on to go public before their acquisition. As one of Sequoia's five voting partners, he also played a significant role in the company's high-profile investments in Google, YouTube, Nvidia, and others. Additionally, he served as a director of Commquest, Summit Design, Aspect Development, Terayon, Pixelworks and many other Sequoia portfolio companies. 

Throughout his tenure at Sequoia, Stevens made regular appearances on Forbes' Midas List, which ranks the top 100 venture capitalists in the technology industry. He eventually achieved a 10th place ranking on the list.

An alumnus of the University of Southern California (USC), Stevens has maintained a close connection to his alma mater. Since 2001, he has held a seat on the university's board of trustees, co-chairing the investment committee and serving as a member of the finance and executive committees.

In addition, he serves on the board of councilors of the USC Viterbi School of Engineering. He also serves on the dean's advisory board at Harvard Business School, where he earned his MBA.

In 2004, Mark Stevens and his wife, Mary Stevens, made a donation to USC to establish the new Stevens Institute for Technology Commercialization. He serves as chairman of the institute, which is now called the USC Stevens Center for Innovation. Most recently, Stevens and his wife funded an endowment to support the USC Mark and Mary Stevens Neuroimaging and Informatics Institute.

Mary Stevens

Mary was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. She received a B.S. in Finance from Santa Clara University in 1984. For 13 years she worked in the commercial real estate brokerage business, lastly as a vice president at Cornish and Carey Commercial in Santa Clara, California. Ms. Stevens has served on the Santa Clara University Board of Fellows since 2001 and joined the school’s Board of Trustees in 2012. She is currently a member of the Part the Cloud organization that funds Alzheimer’s research. She and her husband, Mark, have been active in education philanthropy with their generous support of educational institutions including Santa Clara University and the University of Southern California. They have three children, Scott, Sean and Samantha.
